Latest Update on How to Make Calls on X for Premium Subscribers and Regular Users

X users can now make and receive audio calls and video calls on the mobile app.

X introduced this feature in March 2024 and made it available to both premium and non-premium users. Every user can basically access it.

While some users embraced the development, others complained that it’s an infringement on their privacy. 

Since then, X Corp has tightened the security measures associated with making or receiving calls on X. 

Users can now control who can call them by changing the default setting that allows you to automatically receive calls from accounts you follow or have in your address book (if X has been permitted to access your address book).

Also, to call another user, you must have received a Direct Message from them at least once.

How to Activate Audio Call and Video Call on X

Calls are not automatically accessible on X. 

You may need to enable it in your settings to start enjoying the feature. 

Follow the steps below to activate your audio call and video call on X. This procedure is applicable to regular subscribers and premium subscribers.

1. Open the X mobile app—note that X calls can only be placed or received on the mobile app, not on the web version

How to Make an Audio Call and Video Call on X

Audio calls are commonly used on social networks that have call features. 

Making an audio call or a video call on X is easy; simply follow these steps:

1. Click the envelope icon on your profile to access your direct messages. Remember we stated earlier that you can only call contacts that have messaged you at least once. Hence the call feature is only accessible from your messages. 
2. Tap on the contact you wish to place a call to. 
3. Click the phone icon, and select audio call or video call.

The user will be notified of your call and can choose to pick up the call or not.

How to Manage Audio Call on X 

Just like on WhatsApp, users can adjust audio call settings while they’re on a call. 

Below are some of the adjustments you can make: 

• You can put the call on speaker. Tap the audio call icon to see this option.
• You can mute your microphone if you would like to keep some noise or information hidden from the person on the other end of the line. Tap the microphone icon to access this feature.
• To end the call, tap the X button.

How to Manage a Video Call on X 

You can also adjust some video call settings while you’re on a video call. 

Some of the adjustments you can make include:

• You can switch between the front or back camera. Tap the flip camera icon to access this.
• You can turn your camera off. Tap the camera icon to access this.
• You can put the call on speaker. Tap the audio call icon to see this option
• You can mute your microphone if you would like to keep some noise or information hidden from the person on the other end of the line. Tap the microphone icon to access this feature
• To end the call, tap the X button.

Security Measures in Making Audio Call and Video Call on X 

As we earlier stated, X has tightened the security measures around making and receiving calls. 

From audio call to video call, users can now manage who can call them. 

There is also a new call setting known as Enhanced Call Privacy that hides users’ IP addresses. These measures are available to regular users and premium subscribers.

How to Control Who Can Call You on X

Follow the steps below to control who can place calls to you on X: 

1. Click the envelope icon on your profile to access your direct messages
2. Click the settings icon in your messages to access your Message settings
3. You can select who you would like to be receiving audio call and video calls from. The options are:

• People in your address book
• People you follow
• Verified users
• Everyone

4. You can also comggghybhpletely disable the audio call and video calling feature as you wish. 

Enhanced Call Privacy

Enhanced Call Privacy is a new way of protecting your IP address when making or receiving calls on X. 

The Enhanced Call Privacy setting is, by default, disabled on all users’ profiles. It only works when enabled by the user. 

Enabling it masks your IP address from users whom you call or receive calls from. If the person on the other end of the line also enables this setting, their IP address will likewise be hidden from you. 

Follow the steps below to enable the Enhanced Call Privacy setting:

1. Click the envelope icon on your profile to access your direct messages
2. Click the settings icon in your messages to access your Message settings
3. Click “Enhanced Call Privacy” to enable or disable it. 

Note that the Enhanced Call Privacy setting is not limited to premium subscribers. All X users can access this feature.
