In a recent statement from Mrs. Hadiza Umar, Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at NITDA, it was revealed that the agency is aligning its efforts with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The goal is clear: to generate one million digital jobs within the Information Technology sector.
In collaboration with Coursera, NITDA aims to annually train 8,000 Nigerian learners, divided into cohorts of 4,000, totaling 24,000 over three years. Beneficiaries from the first and second cohorts represented a diverse group, including students, government employees, entrepreneurs, and academics.
Umar highlighted that this partnership with Coursera opens doors for Nigerian students, providing access to Coursera’s Professional Certificate portfolio. This means selected learners will have the privilege of tapping into top-notch educational content offered by renowned institutions like Yale, Meta, Google, and IBM.
Beyond individual development, Coursera is set to support the Nigerian government in enhancing the technical capabilities of the country’s youth. This will contribute to the growth of IT talent in the country.

In Cohort 3, the focus will centre around the 3 Million Tech Talent (3MTT) initiative by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
Courses will cover a range of skills including Software Development, UI/UX Design, Data Analysis, Visualisations, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Data Science, Animation, AI/Machine Learning, Cyber Security, and Cloud Computing.
