Showmax Raises Subscription Prices Shortly After Its Relaunch

Showmax Subscription Price Increase: Showmax, an African streaming service, has announced a pricing update for its unrivaled content effective 01 August 2024.

The development will kick in six months after their relaunch, in partnership with Comcast’s NBCUniversal.

The company is leveraging the massive audience of the English Premier League, the most-watched sports league globally, to attract subscribers to the Showmax platform by maintaining its pricing.

Premier League pricing remains at R69 a month, giving subscribers access to every match of the 2024/25 Premier League season and exciting new shows like Robert Marawa’s Quantum Football series, exclusive Premier League content and exciting offers for customers.

Showmax CEO Marc Jury in a statement, said, “As a lifelong football fanatic, I can’t tell you how excited I am for the return of the greatest football league in the world.”

“Pricing is something that all businesses have to review regularly, and we launched with attractive pricing on the new Showmax platform. In addition, we are thrilled that we’ve been able to keep the Showmax Premier League and bundled Showmax plans unchanged.”

“With this, we are bringing all 380 Premier League matches to millions of football fans in Africa and continuing to focus on making streaming affordable and effortless.”

MultiChoice Claims Showmax Subscription Price Increase Normal

Also, the company emphasized that the price increase is a “normalization” following a discounted pricing offer as part of the launch of Showmax 2.0.

MultiChoice said in a statement on Wednesday, “Showmax Entertainment will revert to its original R99/month, which was the launch price in 2015. Also, Showmax Entertainment Mobile will be priced at R45, at the low end of mobile streaming prices globally.”
