OpenAI Postpones New Voice Assistant to Fix Safety Concerns

OpenAI Voice Assistant Delay: OpenAI, owner of ChatGPT, said it was delaying the release of its “Voice Mode” feature by a month to July because of technical issues.

This delay is to ensure the feature can safely and effectively process requests from users.

“We had planned to start rolling this out in alpha to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users in late June, but need one more month to reach our bar to launch.”

“We’re also working on improving the user experience and preparing our infrastructure to scale to millions while maintaining real-time responses.”

OpenAI Upgrades Sports Several Improvements

OpenAI previously unveiled its new AI system GPT-4o in May. The new upgrade includes several new features including an advanced version of its existing voice mode. This advanced version makes it capable of realistic voice conversation and of reasoning “across audio, vision, and text in real time”.

This upgrade will have several improvements such as allowing users to have human-like natural spoken communications with computers.

This includes a fast response time (an average of 320 milliseconds against GPT-4’s 5.4 seconds), and better perception of tones, background noises, and emotions.
