While you’re commuting or relaxing at home, you can now take your DStv subscription with you. The official DStv mobile app (recently rebranded as DStv Stream) lets Nigerian subscribers stream live TV, Catch-Up shows, movies, sports, and more on any Android or iOS device. All you need is an active DStv package, an Internet connection, and knowledge of how to watch DStv on your Phone.
With the DStv App installed on your smartphone, you simply create a DStv Connect (MultiChoice) account to link your subscription, and then you can watch your channels and favorite programs anywhere.
In this write-up, we will cover how to watch DStv on your phone, including linking your account, downloading the app, and using its key features.
Yes, you do not need a decoder or satellite dish to watch DStv on your phone. In other words, once you have a valid DStv subscription (Padi, Yanga, Confam, Compact, Premium, etc.), your phone effectively becomes a portable decoder. The DStv Stream app will show you all the same channels included in your package, over the internet.
If you’re not yet a subscriber, DStv Stream offers standalone streaming packages, so you can sign up for DStv (Compact, Premium, etc.) purely online without any satellite equipment.
In Nigeria today, you can even buy a streaming‑only DStv plan and watch exclusively on your mobile or smart devices. But if you do have a regular DStv subscription with a decoder at home, the good news is that mobile streaming is included free of extra charge. All that’s required is your DStv account details and data/Wi-Fi.
To start streaming, you must link your DStv subscription to the mobile app. This is done using your MultiChoice ID (also called DStv Connect ID) and either your account holder ID number or smartcard number. Here’s how:
2. Create a DStv Connect ID. Launch the app and create a DSTV Connect ID. The app will prompt you to create one – enter your email (or mobile number) and choose a secure password. Then tap Create Account to register. You can also sign in using your MultiChoice ID (the email/phone and password you set up).
3. Link your DStv subscription. After logging in, choose the option to “Link account” or “Add subscription” in the app’s menu. Enter the required details: the account holder’s ID number or your DStv smartcard number, and your surname or customer number as prompted.
Submit the form and check your email or SMS for a confirmation code. Enter that code in the app when requested. Once confirmed, the app will now show your active DStv package.
4. Personalize. Setup a viewing profile and choose an avatar for your profile. Follow the prompts to create a new profile. Provide a name for your profile. You can create up to six viewing profiles. Ensure each profile has a unique name and avatar.
5. Start Streaming. With your subscription linked, you can immediately watch. Tap the “Live TV” section of the app to see all the channels included in your plan.
Alternatively, go to “Catch Up” to watch recently aired shows and episodes on demand. The interface is intuitive: simply tap a channel to start streaming live, or select a show from Catch-Up to play it.
The DStv Stream app offers extra functions beyond live TV. For example, you can download shows and movies to watch offline. The app lets you save up to 25 items on your device.
This is handy if you know you’ll be without internet later like the case with most Nigerians – just tap the Download icon on eligible programs. Personal profiles, watchlists, and the BoxOffice (rentals) section are also built into the app.
That’s it! Once you’ve completed these steps, you can watch DStv on your phone anytime. The app will remember your device, and you can browse live channels and on-demand content anytime.
Remember that streaming uses data – HD video can consume around 2+ GB per hour, so you might want to adjust the video quality in settings if you’re on mobile data. But as long as you have internet, all your DStv channels are available on the go.
The monthly cost for DStv XtraView is ₦5,000

Watching DStv on your phone is now easy and free for all Nigerian subscribers. Once you’ve downloaded the DStv Stream app and linked your account, you’ll have instant access to live sports, movies, series, and more, even downloading favourites for offline viewing.
Whether you’re using Android or iOS, the steps above will get you set up. In short: install the app, sign in with your MultiChoice ID, link your subscription, and start streaming.
