Trade Depot is a mobile b2b trade platform that connects retailers in emerging markets directly to consumer goods brands for ordering and delivery.
Unlike other more traditional route-to-market approaches, Trade Depot leverages a hyper-local marketplace to save suppliers up to 25% of delivery logistics costs and provides millions of small retail outlets with reliable product supplies at the best prices.
Through Tradedepot’s platform small retailers can have a real-time view of the prices and discounts available from every major brand, they can order those products which are then delivered to them as the order is routed to the appropriate nearby depot.
During this whole process, the manufacturer has visibility of its distribution and can leverage that to optimize its deliveries to distributors, improve its pricing, and have a direct channel toward small retailers.
We started with a mission to make milk distribution to small retailers on the continent better, using technology. Today we are scaling out this same tech to help reliably distribute food, beverages, and personal care products to more and more communities, and help small community pharmacies get the medical supplies they need.
TradeDepot set up in 2015, uses a digital platform to connect producers with an informal network of 40,000 micro retailers. Until now, its presence has been mostly in Lagos state and Abuja. The priority is setting up a presence in 10 to 15 major cities, to cover all of Nigeria’s major cities by the end of 2021.
In July 2020, Trade Depot raised $10m in equity, with investors including Partech and the International Finance Corporation. Women stand to benefit the most from better access to retail supplies. Over 75% of the retailers in TradeDepot’s network are women.
We are committed to building the future of retail in Africa, to make food and supplies accessible and affordable for even the most remote consumers on the continent.
We focus on solving real problems for our clients and creating measurable and sustainable value. We understand that 90% of our retail clients are not sophisticated, and so we seek out simple yet disruptive ways for these retailers to access product supplies at affordable prices.

Trade Depot offers retailers digital wallets and lines of credit, presenting a key opportunity to enhance women retailers’ financial inclusion in a country where only 31 percent of women have bank accounts compared with 61 percent of men.
Connecting over 100,000 small shops, kiosks, and retailers with the wholesalers of major consumer brands such as Nestlé, Unilever, and Danone, retailers can scan prices and take advantage of discounts in real-time.
Orders are routed to nearby depots and a fleet of drivers ensures timely delivery to keep shelves packed with the food, beverages, and personal care products customers want.
