OpenAI has launched an academy to foster innovative spirits in developers and organizations leveraging AI. This initiative, OpenAI Academy Program, is open to low and middle-income countries.
According to the AI company, the Academy will ensure that the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence is accessible and beneficial to diverse communities worldwide.
It will also empower local developers and mission-driven organizations to address challenges within their communities.
The major goal of the initiative is to invest in local AI talent that can fuel economic growth and innovation across sectors. Tailored specifically for local needs, OpenAI wants its AI applications to be contextual to the particular economy and culture.

The OpenAI Academy program will provide support, relevant partnership, knowledge, accessibility to OpenAI models, and growth.
According to the company’s blog, further actions to accommodate developers from low and middle-income countries were highlighted. One of the actions is OpenAI funding and publishing a professional translation of the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) benchmark.
This is a measure of general AI intelligence, in 14 languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili, and Yoruba.
By supporting developers and organizations that understand the unique cultures, economies, and social dynamics of their communities, OpenAl ensures that Al applications are better tailored to meet local needs.
