Just the other night, at General Akins’ house, Tunde and I had gone for his house warming party when one of the General’s friends had mentioned a strange word.
Tunde and I decided to look it up and within a few seconds ,Tunde already got the meaning of the word whilst my browser was still cycling.
I was so shocked and quite inquisitive to what brand of phone he was using and which network band? That was when Tunde had let me in on the new trend “The 5G phones in Nigeria”.
Tunde was using the Infinix 5G phones in Nigeria at the time.
In this piece, we’ll be reviewing some of the affordable 5G phones for Nigerians including the 5G phones below 100k in Nigeria.

Tecno Pova 3 is an Android smartphone produced by tecno and one of the 5G phones in Nigeria.
It was announced in May 2022 and has a rating of 5.00 average based on 72947 reviews. The phone’s price ranges between ₦140,000 to ₦150,000 with a display of about 6.9 inches IPS LCD.
Its battery Life is 6000 MAh witha a non-removable Li-Po Battery. The device has a storage capacity of 128GB and RAM of 8GB.
Tecno pova 3 uses a MediaTek MT6877 Dimensity 900 5G (6 nm) Octa-core Processor and runs on Android 11, HIOS 8.0 Operating System

The Infinix Zero 5G is one of the Infinix 5G phones in Nigeria known for its popular sleek design.
It has a 5.00 average rating with the price range between ₦155,000 to ₦165,000.
The phone has a 6.78 inches IPS LCD Display and battery Life of about 5000 MAh with a non-removable Li-Po Battery.
The storage capacity of the phone is 128GB and its RAM is 8GB. It also runs on a MediaTek MT6877 Dimensity 900 5G (6 nm) Octa-core Processor with Android 11, XOS 10 Operating System.
Infinix Zero 5G has a 48 MP + 13 MP + 2 MP Triple AI Rear Camera | 16 MP Front Camera and operates a 5G, LTE Network.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G was released in January 2023 as a mid-range smartphone. It is one of the 5G phones in Nigeria with a 6.6-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The phone has a MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor, 4GB/6GB/8GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB/256GB of storage, a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera.
It also has a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support making it a good choice.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G comes in three variants, the 4GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB variants with the 6GB/128GB selling between the range #150,000 to #155,000.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is also mid-range smartphone and amongst the 5G phones in Nigeria that was released in January 2023.
It has a 6.6-inch FHD+ display, a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, 4GB/6GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB of storage, a 50MP main camera, a 5MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 13MP selfie camera.
The phone also has a 5000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support.
Samsung Galaxy A14 5G has a large display and a long-lasting battery with a price tag of N170,000 in some local shops.
The OPPO A74 5G is one of the 5G phones in Nigeria below 100k, with the price ranging between #99,000 to #180,000.
The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 480 5G processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal memory.
This device is quite affordable and equipped with virtual memory expansion technology incase you run out of RAM.
The Oppo A74 5G comes with Android 11 OS, 6.5 inches LTPS IPS LCD 90Hz Display, Snapdragon 480 5G Chipset, Quad (48MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP) Rear and 16MP Selfie Cameras.
It also runs on a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging with a Non-removable Li-Po Battery.

The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G is a product of Infinix, a brand popular for making quality devices and amongst the Infinix 5G phones in Nigeria.
It is available at mid-range prices and was announced in July 2022. The Smartphone has a 5.00 average rating based on 2079 reviews and prices ranging between ₦197,000 to ₦207,000
Its Battery life is 5000mAh with a Non-removable Li-Po Battery and 108 MP (wide) + 2 MP (macro) + 2 MP (depth) Tripple Rear Camera with 16 MP Front Camera.
Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G has a 6.7 inches AMOLED Display, 1080 x 2400 pixels (~393 ppi density), ~85.6% screen-to-body ratio and a side- mounted Fingerprint Sensor.
It operates in three networks 5G, 4G and 3G and runs on Android 12, XOS 10.6 operating system with a MediaTek MT6833P Dimensity 810 (6 nm) Octa Core Processor.
The device has a 8 GB RAM memory space, 128GB storage capacity and a Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by).
The Tecno Camon20 Pro 5G was released in May 2023 with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate.
It has a MediaTek Dimensity 8050 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 32MP selfie camera.

The Xiaomi Poco M4 Pro 5G is a product of Xiaomi Global and one of the 5GB phones in Nigeria below 100k ranging between #99,000 to #120,000.
It can be seen to be one of the cheapest 5G smartphone in Nigeria as of now.
The phone comes with a 6.6 inches IPS LCD screen offering 1080 x 2400 resolution and backed by a 5000 mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.
The phone has a 50MP main camera at the rear plus an 8 MP ultra-wide camera. In the front of the device is a 16MP selfie camera.
Xiaomi Poco M4 Pro 5G comes with adequate internal memories in variants of 64GB, 4GB RAM and 128GB, 6GB RAM. It is also powered by MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G (6 nm) processor and runs on Android 11, MIUI 12.5.
In April 2021,Nokia announced the Nokia X20 5G Android Smartphone which has now amassed an average rating of 5.00 based on 23660 reviews.
The Price of the phone now ranges between ₦180,000 to 260,000 depending on the variant.

The Samsung Galaxy M33 5G is a 5G phone in Nigeria that comes with Samsung’s 5nm Exynos 1280 processor and a 6GB or 8GB of RAM.
It has about 128GB of expandable internal storage and a 6.6-inch LCD display of Full HD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate.
It features a 5,000mAh battery just like most Samsung Galaxy M series phones and it possesses a 50-megapixel main camera that’s accompanied by a 5MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP depth-sensing camera for portrait shots, and a 2MP macro camera.
At the front of the phone, is a 8MP camera for taking selfies. The market value of this phone is between the range of #170,000 and #200,000.
Well, not everyone in Nigeria needs to buy a 5G phone, at least not at the moment. Here’s why:
