TRC Report Shows that 5G Subscriptions have Seen an 800% Increase Over the Past Year
The latest report from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) shows that 5G subscriptions in Jordan have grown by an amazing 800% over the past year. This means a lot more people are now using the new, faster 5G mobile network. The TRC report on 5G subscriptions says that by the end of 2024, there were about 113,000 people with 5G connections. This is a big jump from just over 70,000 in the previous quarter and way more than the number from the same time last year.
This huge increase in 5G subscriptions tells us that many Jordanians are switching to faster internet on their phones. The TRC report that 5G subscriptions have seen an 800% increase shows how quickly technology is changing here. But it’s not just 5G that is growing. The total number of mobile broadband users also went up, reaching over 8 million by the end of 2024. This is about 4% more than the year before. Most people still use prepaid plans, making up nearly 7 out of 10 users, while the rest have postpaid plans.
More people are using mobile phones too. The report says that 69% of the population had a mobile subscription by the end of 2024, up from 67% the year before. For people over 15 years old, the number of mobile subscriptions is even higher, at 106%. This means some people have more than one phone line. Text messaging also increased a lot. In the last quarter of 2024, people sent 576 million text messages, which is more than double the amount sent in the same period in 2023.
The TRC report on 5G subscriptions also shows that people are using more data on their phones. Mobile internet use grew by 13%, reaching 658 million gigabytes in the last quarter of 2024. Fixed internet services at home also grew a little, with 812,000 subscriptions. Most homes use fiber-optic internet, which is very fast, making up almost 73% of fixed internet users. Other types like wireless and older DSL technology make up the rest.
While fixed phone lines saw a small drop in users, the total time spent on fixed phone calls actually went up by 6%. Most of these calls were local, with 85% happening within the country and 15% being international.
