Ticketmaster Buys South Africa’s Quicket

Ticketmaster has acquired Quicket, a major ticketing platform in Africa.

This is a big move in their expansion plans for the continent. Quicket was founded in South Africa in 2011 and has a presence in several African countries including Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Botswana.

This acquisition will help Ticketmaster to enhance their offerings and support the growing live events market in Africa.

Strategic Expansion

With this acquisition Ticketmaster will leverage Quicket’s local knowledge and integrate their global ticketing solutions.

Ticketmaster President Mark Yovich said “we will supercharge our mission to bring Africa’s live events to the world” with Quicket.

This will give local venues, artists and promoters access to Ticketmaster’s vast resources and technology including mobile ticketing systems.

Leadership and Operations

Quicket will continue to operate as a standalone business unit under the leadership of Managing Director James Tagg.

Tagg said “This is a landmark moment for African artists to connect with the world and for local fans and promoters to have a better experience. Live entertainment is a big part of African culture and Quicket has empowered event creators across the continent.”

Market Impact

The acquisition will speed up the roll out of digital ticketing in Africa for both event organizers and attendees.

Ticketmaster entered the African market in 2022 and this acquisition cements their commitment to being a major player in the region.

By combining Quicket’s self service platform with Ticketmaster’s global network the partnership will simplify ticketing for events from small local shows to large festivals.

Future Challenges

Despite the positives Ticketmaster has challenges in the US with anti-competitive practices and cybersecurity issues.

They are currently in legal battles that could impact their business.

But Ticketmaster acquiring Quicket is part of their strategy to diversify and strengthen their position in Africa where some of the most passionate fans are in the world.

Conclusion

Ticketmaster’s acquisition of Quicket is a big moment for the African live events industry.

This partnership will change the ticketing landscape and give event organizers and attendees a seamless experience.

As Ticketmaster expands in Africa this partnership with Quicket will be key to the future of live entertainment on the continent.
