Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6: New Phones With Advanced AI Features Costing N3.8 million

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 AI phones, the latest additions to its foldable smartphone series. 

The new devices were unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, where Samsung showcased its commitment to innovation and user experience. 

The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are designed to offer enhanced AI capabilities, improved camera features, and a sleeker design.

Design and Display

The design of both the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 remains largely unchanged from their predecessors. 

The Fold6 is shorter and wider than the previous generation, while the Flip6 is Samsung’s thinnest device yet. 

The internal displays of both devices feature a 120Hz refresh rate, providing a smooth and responsive user experience.

The Fold6 boasts a 7.6-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,856 pixels, while the Flip6 has a 7.6-inch internal display and a 3.4-inch external display, both with resolutions of 2,640 x 1,080 pixels and 748 x 720 pixels, respectively.

AI Features

The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are equipped with advanced AI capabilities, which enhance their photographic and productivity features. 

The AI features include instant slow-motion video generation, live translations for calls, and real-time text summaries of conversations. 

Users can also translate phone call dialogues in real-time and play them back to the call participants in a language they understand.

The AI capabilities also allow for enhanced versions of Chat Assist, Transcribe Assist, Note Assist, and Circle to Search.

Camera Features

The camera setup on the Galaxy Z Fold6 includes a 50MP primary shooter combined with 10MP telephoto and 12MP ultrawide sensors. 

The Flip6 features a similar camera setup, with a 50-megapixel main camera and an improved 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor. 

The Fold6 also includes a 12-megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom.

The Flip6 has a new feature called “Camcorder Grip,” which allows users to hold the phone sideways, folded at a 90-degree angle like a camcorder, and start recording. 

This feature provides a zoom slider on the bottom screen as you record.

Hardware and Performance

Both the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 come with 12GB of RAM and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which enables the inclusion of Galaxy AI. 

The Fold6 offers users the choice between 256GB and 512GB internal storage capacities. The Flip6 has 256GB internal storage.

The Galaxy Fold6’s external display is slightly larger than the previous generation, at 6.3 inches, with a resolution of 2,376 x 968 pixels.

Availability and Pricing

Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 AI phones went live on 10 June 2024. 

The Samsung Galaxy Fold6 is available in three colors — Silver Shadow, Pink, and Navy — with a recommended price of $2,408.86 (3.8 million naira) for the 256GB model and $2,546.26 (4.03 million naira) for the 512GB configuration. 

The Flip6 is available in the Silver Shadow color option, along with Blue, Yellow, and Mint, with a recommended price of $2,408.86 (3.8 million naira).
