Competition has always been a motivation for providing better services to consumers. Competition from Starlink has pushed Safaricom to double internet speeds for its customers.
The 10 megabits per second (Mbps) connection has now been upgraded to 15 Mbps at KES 3,000 ($23).
Customers on the 20 Mbps plan now have a 30 Mbps connection, while those on the 40 Mbps plan have doubled their speeds to 80 Mbps.
The 100 Mbps package has been increased fivefold to 500 Mbps for KES 12,500 ($97).
Additionally, the telco has introduced a new 1000Mbps (Gigabit per second) Platinum plan, at Kshs 20,000 monthly.
Current customers will automatically be upgraded to the enhanced packages to enjoy faster speeds.
Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa, said, “Safaricom Doubles Internet Speed. We have also enhanced our Home Internet speeds to cater to the increased demand and usage by offering reliable connectivity and enhanced value for our customers.”
“The introduction of the Safaricom internet speed increase speeds offers the capability of handling the most demanding online activities with ease. This includes high-definition streaming 4K/8K, gaming, large file transfers, cloud computing, and virtual reality.”

Also, Safaricom plans to conduct estate clinics, increase capacity in congested areas, and offer 4G and 5G options for homes outside fiber coverage.
Businesses will also benefit from the internet plans, ranging from a 15 Mbps shared option for micro companies to a 100 Mbps shared plan for growing enterprises.
The introduction of Starlink into Kenya has sparked notable changes. It is anticipated that further developments like Safaricom’s double internet speed, will unfold over time.
