Microsoft has launched a new Windows app for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, web browsers, Android devices, and Windows PCs.
It allows users to access Windows environments directly from their mobile devices.
This Windows app has replaced the need for a remote desktop.
It will act as a virtual hub, incorporating key Microsoft services such as Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and more.
This unified app serves as your secure gateway to connect to Windows across Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop, Remote Desktop Services, Microsoft Dev Box, and more,” Microsoft’s Windows 365 Senior Product Manager Hilary Braun noted.
This app has been in testing for nearly a year and includes a customizable home screen, multi-monitor support, and USB redirection so you can use local devices like webcams, storage devices, and printers as if they were plugged directly into a cloud PC.

Note that it is also limited to Microsoft’s range of business accounts, but there are signs it will be available to consumers, too.
Microsoft said, “With Windows App, you can enjoy a unified experience that makes it simple for people to connect to the Windows experience they know and love from any device. Enhance productivity with features such as customizable home screens, multi-monitor support, and USB redirection.”
“The Windows App also offers advanced security features, including multifactor authentication, to ensure a seamless and robust connection, enabling efficient work from any location at any time.”
The new Windows app can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store and is also available on Apple’s App Store for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. An Android version in public preview mode is also available.
