Lagos State Polytechnic, commonly called LASPOTECH, was created in 1977 through a law passed by the Lagos State Government. Classes officially started in January 1978 at a temporary campus in Isolo, with only five departments: Accounting, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Marketing, and Insurance.
Later that same year, the School of Agriculture located in Ikorodu was added to the polytechnic. This became the main campus of the school. At first, the institution was called Lagos State College of Science and Technology (LACOSTECH), but in 1986, it was renamed Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) to show its focus on technical and professional education.
For many years, LASPOTECH became popular in Nigeria for offering National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programs in fields like science, engineering, technology, and business.
In February 2022, the school was officially upgraded to a university. The Lagos State Government changed the name to Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). This change was approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the school was allowed to start 38 new degree programs in different areas.
Even though the school is now a university, many people still call it LASPOTECH. It continues to provide hands-on, career-focused training, now also offering full university degrees. With campuses in Ikorodu, Isolo, and Surulere, LASUSTECH is still a top choice for students looking for quality and practical education in Nigeria.
To get admission into Laspotech, candidates must:
Try to score more than 180 in JAMB if you want to get into popular courses.
Get ready for the Post-UTME exam because it plays a big role in getting admitted.
Make sure your WAEC or NECO results match what the course you want to study requires.
Carefully follow all admission steps, like filling out forms on time and uploading the right documents.
If your JAMB score is low, choose courses that many people don’t apply for to improve your chances.
