Huawei Nigeria Local Cloud: Huawei, a global technology leader has launched its local cloud service in Nigeria.
Themed: “Leap Now With A Better Cloud”, the launch signifies Huawei’s dedication to driving digital transformation in Nigeria by providing localised, secure, and scalable cloud solutions.
At the unveiling, Huawei Executives highlighted that the local cloud service will strengthen digital capabilities and foster economic growth in Nigeria, while enhancing data security and building greater trust in Nigerians on where and how their data are stored.
During the event, the CEO of Huawei Nigeria, Chris Lu, emphasised the company’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s digital economy.
Lu noted that the initiative was a significant milestone towards meeting the country’s data protection regulation, and alignment with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission’s objectives to limit cross-border data transfer and have data kept within the country.
“With disruptive technology, we can transform our daily lives, our industries, and our economy. Not knowing where your data is stored is terrifying.
“The Huawei local cloud ensures your data and that of your customers are safely protected. Our local cloud provides better latency, better services, and ensures data sovereignty for our customers,” he said.
This innovative service is tailored to meet the needs of private businesses, government agencies, and startups, while ensuring data sovereignty and compliance with local regulations, a critical factor for Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

Also, the CEO emphasized the challenges associated with traditional cloud solutions, where data is often stored in remote locations like Ireland. This can lead to potential security risks, latency issues, and compliance hurdles.
“While cloud computing offers numerous benefits, data security remains a concern. Many major cloud providers store data in locations outside of Nigeria, raising concerns about data privacy and outages due to geographical distance.”
“Here at Huawei, we understand the importance of data security and digital sovereignty. That’s why we’ve chosen to build a local cloud infrastructure in Nigeria. We’re not alone in this approach – other providers are building local clouds in Kenya and South Africa.”
“Huawei Nigeria Local Cloud goes beyond just market potential. We believe in working with local partners to develop applications and digital services that cater to Nigerian businesses and consumers.”
The summit also highlights Huawei Cloud’s crucial support for leading tech companies in Nigeria. For instance, OPay, Nigeria’s top fintech company has successfully reduced transaction latency from 130 ms. to 15 ms., enhancing user experience even during traffic surges.
Another success story highlights the service for Nigeria’s prominent local e-commerce company, which has significantly improved its operational efficiency through Huawei Cloud’s innovative solutions.
