FBN Holdings Appoints Former GTBank Director, Wale Oyedeji, as New GMD

FBN Holdings New GMD: FBN Holdings Plc has officially announced the appointment of Adebowale (Wale) Oyedeji as the new Group Managing Director (GMD), effective November 13, 2024.

This appointment, which is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria and ratification by shareholders at the next Annual General Meeting, marks a new chapter for the financial institution.

Oyedeji succeeds Nnamdi Okonkwo, who is retiring after completing his term. With over 30 years of banking experience, Oyedeji brings expertise in corporate banking, treasury, and commercial banking.

Mr. Wale Oyedeji holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Science in Financial Economics from the University of London.

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program of Harvard Business School.

He has over 30 years of banking experience in Corporate Banking, Treasury, Commercial Banking, and General Management.

Also, he served as Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank UK between 2008 and 2011.  There, he served as Executive Director for the Corporate Banking Group and contributed immensely to the business’s growth and transformation.

Wale also served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Stanbic IBTC Bank.

New GMD To Implement The Company’s New Five-Year Strategic Plan

Additionally, before his appointment, Wale was the MD/CEO of Nova Commercial Bank where he contributed to the Institution’s conversion to a commercial bank as well as its foray into Retail Banking.

In his new position, Wale would lead the Executive beams at Holdco and the various subsidiaries to implement its new five-year strategic plan.

Speaking on his appointment, the Group Chairman of FBN Holdings, Mr. Femi Otedola, CON, said, “The Board is pleased to welcome Wale Oyedeji to the Holdco and looks forward to him building on the solid foundation of our 130-year-old franchise and sustaining its undisputed leadership position.”
