Zimbabwe Bans Explicit Social Media Content

Zimbabwe’s Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) has issued a strong warning to all digital content creators. They must stop sharing explicit material that anyone, including children, can easily see online. This move comes after one creator posted many explicit videos on Facebook and quickly gained a huge following.

BAZ says such content harms people who view it, especially young minds. The authority makes it clear that all broadcasting and digital content in Zimbabwe must follow the country’s laws and constitution. This rule applies no matter the platform, like Facebook, TikTok, or others.

Zimbabweans enjoy freedom of expression under Section 61 of the Constitution. But BAZ stresses that this freedom comes with responsibility. Creators cannot use it to spread harmful material.

The warning focuses on protecting children. BAZ points to the Broadcasting Services Act. It states that kids have the right to stay safe from content that hurts their morals or mental growth. The best interests of the child always come first.

In its official statement, BAZ said: “BAZ will not permit the misuse of digital platforms in a manner that violates the constitution, national laws, or the collective moral standards of the nation.”
