Discord Users Can Now Purchase In-game Items Directly Within the Platform

Discord users can now purchase in-game items right inside the platform, making it easier than ever to get the stuff they want without jumping between apps. This fresh update was announced recently and is part of Discord’s plan to add new features that not only improve gamers’ experiences but also open up new ways for developers to make money.

With these new tools, Discord users can browse digital game items and buy them directly on the app, no need to leave Discord at all. On top of that, they can put together wishlists for game items and even send gifts through private messages, making it simple to share gaming gear with friends.

Since Discord is gearing up for a possible IPO, these changes are also a smart move for the company’s business side. If Discord goes public, everything about its finances will be under the microscope. These new commerce features give the platform a way to bring in revenue while also helping developers sell their digital goods more easily. Developers get exposure to a wider crowd beyond just their immediate communities, which can help boost sales.

The first game to roll out these features is Marvel Rivals, a hugely popular game that’s now got its own store page inside its official Discord server. Choosing Marvel Rivals makes sense because it exploded in popularity last year, 10 million players in just three days, over $100 million made in the first month, and a Discord community topping 4 million fans.

Now, players can shop for items like bundles, costumes, emotes, and emojis straight from the Marvel Rivals Discord server. Users can also build wishlists showing the items they want, which friends can check out and buy as gifts. Since the holiday season is just around the corner, this feature is perfectly timed to help gamers send presents easily. You can even gift in-game items through direct messages to friends who don’t play Marvel Rivals, broadening the gift-giving possibilities.

Right now, the store accepts payments in U.S. dollars and is only available on the desktop app for players in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, and Oceania. But Discord is thinking ahead and might open it up to more countries soon.

So, in a nutshell, Discord users can purchase in-game items within the platform itself now, making gaming and gifting smoother than ever for communities all over the world.
