YouTube Unveils Its Very First Recap of the Videos You’ve Viewed

It’s that time of the year again when companies start dropping those cool end-of-year recaps, like Spotify Wrapped, where you get to look back at the content you enjoyed the most. YouTube has been doing a YouTube Music recap for a few years now, but this Tuesday, YouTube unveiled its very first recap of the videos you’ve viewed on the main platform, not just music.

This new YouTube Recap shows up to 12 personalized cards that give you a snapshot of your top channels, interests, how your watching habits have changed over time, and even assigns you a personality type based on what you like to watch. For example, if you’re someone who loves content that helps you learn new skills, YouTube calls you a “Skill Builder.” If you enjoy videos that spread good vibes, you’re a “Sunshiner.” And if you’re into original, boundary-pushing content, you’re dubbed a “Trailblazer.” Some other personality types include the “Wonder Seeker,” the “Connector,” and the “Dreamer”, all based on what you watch the most.

YouTube’s first recap of the videos you’ve viewed also lets you check out your top artists and songs of the year, though if you want more details on your music preferences, you can head over to the YouTube Music app where the annual YouTube Music Recap started rolling out last week.

YouTube unveils its very first video recap you’ve viewed

Starting today, this YouTube recap is live for users in North America, with plans to roll it out worldwide later this week. You’ll find your Recap right on the YouTube homepage or under the “You” tab, whether you’re on your phone or desktop. YouTube shared that they actually tested over 50 different ideas before settling on this final version, showing they really listened to what users wanted.

Alongside unveiling this new Recap, YouTube dropped trend charts highlighting the year’s biggest creators, podcasts, and songs. MrBeast took the crown as the top creator for the sixth year running, “The Joe Rogan Experience” snagged the top podcast spot, and Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die With A Smile” was the most popular song.

This new YouTube Recap launches on the same day as similar features from Apple Music’s Replay and Amazon Music’s Delivered, while Spotify hasn’t released their much-anticipated Wrapped yet. Looks like these companies are racing to get their share of social media buzz with these year-end highlights. So, YouTube unveils its very first video recap you’ve viewed just in time for the season of looking back and sharing your favorite moments online.
