Nigeria and Denmark have just taken a big step to work more closely together by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster innovation. This new agreement is all about helping each other grow in areas like digital technology, new ideas, and artificial intelligence (AI). The goal is to help both countries grow their tech scenes and create more job opportunities for people who know their way around technology.
The MoU was signed in Lagos during the fourth Nordic Nigeria Connect Forum. This event, called “Forging Partnerships for Sustainable Impact,” brought together creative minds from Nordic countries and Nigeria to figure out how they can team up to make technology better for everyone. At the signing, Nigeria’s minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and Denmark’s state secretary for trade and investment, Lina Gandløse Hansen, came together to make it official.

This partnership builds on a visit Dr. Tijani made to Copenhagen in August. While there, he helped launch the Nordic-Africa Summit during Denmark’s big innovation festival. The meeting sparked a lot of good conversations and interest from both sides, which now turned into this real and exciting collaboration.
The focus of the Nigeria and Denmark sign MoU is on three important things: better internet and connectivity, new ways to improve government services, and helping grow tech talent. This means both countries want to improve how people use the internet, make government work smarter, and train more people with the right tech skills. These areas are really important because they help businesses grow, make daily life easier, and open up new jobs.
Lina Gandløse Hansen called this agreement “the first real step forward” to grow innovation together. She said that when Nigeria asks for help or wants to work together, Denmark is ready and willing. She promised that Denmark will work hard to make sure this partnership really works and produces results.
Dr. Tijani also praised Denmark’s support for Nigeria’s digital future. He said this deal is more than just a paper signing — it shows Denmark truly believes in Nigeria’s potential. He added that they plan to work closely on things like expanding high-speed internet in Nigeria, using smart government tools from Denmark, and creating remote jobs for Nigerian tech workers with Danish companies. This kind of teamwork can help Nigeria’s tech industry grow fast and give many people new chances to work in tech.

Overall, Nigeria and Denmark plan to foster innovation means both countries are setting up a strong friendship in technology that can bring lots of benefits. Denmark’s experience with digital tools and Nigeria’s young, talented tech community can make a great team. Together, they can support new startups, improve services, and find tech solutions for everyday problems.
The Nordic Nigeria Connect Forum, where this MoU was signed, continues to be an important place where smart people from both sides meet, share ideas, and build partnerships that can help technology grow in Nigeria and beyond.
