MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a major change for its customers by reducing the price of its DStv decoder by 50%, bringing the cost down from ₦20,000 to just ₦10,000. This move comes as the company tries to win back customers after losing a large number of subscribers in recent years.
The decision for MultiChoice to reduce decoder price by 50% to ₦10,000 is part of a new campaign called “We Got You.” The company hopes that this price cut will make it easier for more Nigerians to afford DStv and enjoy its services, especially as many households are struggling with tough economic conditions. Along with making the decoder more affordable, MultiChoice is also offering a special deal: customers who pay their current DStv subscription in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025, will get a free upgrade to the next DStv package tier at no extra cost. This means more channels, more shows, and better value for subscribers.

MultiChoice’s CEO, John Ugbe, explained that the price reduction and free upgrade are ways to reward loyal customers and attract new ones. He said, “We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day. The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans”.
The company is repositioning itself as a platform for daily value, encouraging people to discover content beyond just sports, including movies, dramas, kids’ shows, and news. MultiChoice says that by offering a free upgrade to the new DStv package, it hopes subscribers will get more out of their service and have more reasons to tune in every day.
This announcement comes after MultiChoice Nigeria lost about 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025, a decline linked to rising inflation, economic hardship, and competition from streaming platforms like Netflix and YouTube. The company has also faced criticism for raising subscription prices three times in the last two years, which made it harder for many Nigerians to keep their DStv or GOtv subscriptions.
