Apple has just announced that it will increase the price of its Apple Music monthly subscription for users in Nigeria. Starting June 22, 2025, the cost of the Individual plan will go up from N1,000 to N1,300. This is a big jump, a 30% increase, and it’s the first time Apple Music increases monthly subscription prices here in over two years. The last time they raised the price was in November 2022, when it went up by just 10%, from N900 to N1,000.
Apple sent an email to its customers letting them know about the change. The message said that unless you cancel your subscription at least one day before June 22, your plan will automatically renew at the new price of N1,300 per month. Apple didn’t say exactly why they are raising the price this time, but many believe it’s because the Nigerian Naira has lost value against the US dollar recently. This makes it more expensive for Apple to run its services in Nigeria, so they need to charge more.

For those who don’t know, Apple Music is a streaming service launched in 2015. It lets you listen to over 90 million songs, enjoy special playlists, and even tune in to the Beats 1 radio station. It works really well with Apple devices like iPhones and iPads, which is why many people love it. Apple Music offers different plans too, like Family and Student plans, so there’s something for everyone.
This new price rise is much bigger than the last one. Back in November 2022, Apple Music increased the price by only 10%, but now it’s jumping by 30%. That means you will pay an extra N300 every month, which could be a lot for some people.
Even though the price is going up, Apple is also adding new features to make the service better. Earlier this year, they introduced something called Sound Therapy. This is a special collection of songs and sounds designed to help you relax, focus, or fall asleep. The songs include calming beats and noises that change in different ways to help your mind feel better.
Apple also started a new radio station called Apple Music Chill. This station plays soft, relaxing music from different styles and includes short moments of calm and mindfulness. It’s like a little break for your brain whenever you listen.
Apple is working hard to grow Apple Music in Nigeria and across Africa. Last year, they expanded the service from 12 African countries to 37. The team behind Apple Music in Africa focuses on creating playlists and content that really connect with local people and support local artists. They even hire African designers and photographers to make sure the look and feel of the app matches the culture.
According to some data, Apple Music is growing steadily in Nigeria, although it’s still behind other services like Boomplay, Spotify, and Audiomack. The number of people using Apple Music and the money it makes have both been going up. Since Apple Music started in Nigeria, the number of streams has more than doubled, and the number of subscribers has also grown a lot.
Apple Music increasing its monthly subscription by 30% from N1,000 to N1,300 is a big change for Nigerian users. While this might be tough for some, Apple is also working to make the service better with new features and more local content. If you love music and use Apple devices, it’s still a service worth checking out.
