Orange Mali and Intelsat are teaming up to bring fast internet to the people of Mali, especially those living in faraway, hard-to-reach places. Together, Orange Mali and Intelsat to extend 4G network access to remote areas in Mali, which is a big deal for a country that’s the eighth largest in Africa.
Right now, only about half of Mali’s people have internet access. Setting up regular internet lines and cell towers is tough in many parts of the country because of the huge distances, rough land, and sometimes unstable conditions. That’s why Orange Mali and Intelsat partner to extend 4G network access using satellites instead of the usual cables and towers. This is actually the first time this kind of satellite-based 4G network has been set up in West Africa’s French-speaking countries.

Brian Jakins, a leader at Intelsat, explained, “We want everyone in the world to have good, reliable internet, no matter where they live. For people in far-off places, having a strong and safe connection is even more important. That’s why we’re working with Orange Mali to solve this problem in a country where the usual internet setup isn’t always reliable.”
Thanks to this partnership, Orange Mali’s internet capacity has grown a lot-from 200 Mbps to over 5 Gbps. This means they can now provide strong internet at more than 60 sites across 30 different areas. As a result, about 360,000 people in hard-to-reach places now have internet access for the first time.
Moussa Yaro, Orange Mali’s Technical Director, said, “Using satellites is the best way for us to get 3G and 4G coverage in a country as big and spread out as Mali. Intelsat is known for doing this kind of thing all over the world, and we already have a great working relationship with them. That’s why they’re the perfect partner for us.”
Orange Mali and Intelsat to extend 4G network in Mali is already making a real difference. In places like the village of Kabala, having reliable phone and internet service has helped people start new businesses and find jobs. People who had moved away are now coming back home, feeling safer because they can stay in touch with family and friends. Women are also benefiting, as they now have more access to technology, loans, and markets.
Orange Mali is the top mobile network in Mali and has won awards for being the fastest in the country and all of West Africa. This new partnership with Intelsat is helping them reach even more people and close the digital gap in Mali. With Orange Mali and Intelsat partnering to extend 4G network access, more Malians will be able to connect, learn, and grow in today’s digital world.
