MTN Group has made some important changes to its leadership teams in Rwanda and South Sudan. This move is part of the company’s plan to improve how it works in East Africa and to prepare for the future.
Mapula Bodibe, who has been the CEO of MTN Rwanda since 2022, will now become the CEO of MTN South Sudan. During her time in Rwanda, she helped the company grow a lot. She led the launch of MTN Rwanda’s own 4G network, worked with the government to make affordable smartphones available through the Ikosora project, and upgraded the network in Kigali with help from Ericsson. She also showed Rwanda’s first live 5G technology demonstration, which was a big step for the country’s digital progress.
Faustin Mbundu, the Chairman of MTN Rwanda, thanked Mapula for her great work. He said, “Mapula was very important in helping MTN start its own 4G network and achieve many other successes.”
At the same time, Ali Monzer, who was the CEO of MTN South Sudan, will now take over as CEO of MTN Rwanda. Ali has over 21 years of experience in the telecom industry. He managed MTN South Sudan during very tough times, including economic problems like high inflation and currency issues, as well as ongoing conflict in the country. His experience handling these challenges makes him a strong choice for leading MTN Rwanda.
Faustin Mbundu said he is happy to welcome Ali to Rwanda and believes his experience will be very useful. “With 21 years in telecoms, Ali will do well in Rwanda,” Mbundu said.
These leadership changes are part of MTN Group’s bigger plan called Ambition 2025. This plan focuses on growing the company in a way that lasts, improving leadership, encouraging new digital ideas, and making sure the company works well in each country it operates in.
MTN Group is the biggest mobile network company in Africa, serving over 289 million people. They want to become the largest and most valuable platform business in Africa by offering not just phone calls and internet but also financial services and digital products.

By moving leaders like Mapula and Ali between countries, MTN Group hopes to share knowledge and improve how the company works in different places. Mapula’s move to South Sudan is expected to bring new energy and ideas to a country that faces many challenges. Ali’s move to Rwanda will help build on the progress already made in a more stable and growing market.
Both leaders will start their new roles soon. MTN Group believes these changes will help the company continue to lead Africa’s digital transformation and connect more people across the continent.
