The “MyLagos App” has Disappeared from the Google Play Store Shortly After its Launch

Imagine waking up to the news that a brand-new app, designed to make life easier for millions of people in Lagos, has vanished from the Google Play Store just hours after its big launch. This is exactly what happened with the MyLagos App, a digital platform meant to simplify city navigation and improve residents’ experiences. Despite the excitement and anticipation, the app is nowhere to be found on app stores.

The MyLagos App was launched on March 13 by the Lagos State Government in partnership with MTN Nigeria. It promised to offer real-time traffic updates, personalized navigation, emergency services, utility payments, business listings, and tourism information, all at your fingertips. But when people tried to download it, they were met with a disappointing message: “No results for MyLagos App” on Google Play Store and a similar dead end on Apple’s App Store.

Some wondered if the app was only available to people living in Lagos, but even residents there couldn’t find it. This has led to a lot of speculation. Was the app taken down due to technical issues? Was it only available for a short time during the launch event? These questions are still unanswered.

MyLagos app not on app stores

The situation is made even more confusing by the discovery of an older platform with a very similar name and features. A website called “MyLagosApp.mobi” looks almost identical to the new app, with services like traffic updates and business listings. It even has reviews from as far back as 2016 and 2017. This has raised doubts about whether the MyLagos App is truly a new creation or if it’s based on something that already existed.

At the launch, officials were full of praise for the app. The Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, said it would enhance governance and make life easier for residents. Abdulhakeem Giwa from MTN described it as revolutionary, promising real-time solutions to improve quality of life. But with the app missing and questions about its authenticity, people are starting to lose trust.

The disappearance of the MyLagos App from Google Play Store has left many feeling disappointed and confused. It’s unclear what happened or when the app might become available again. For now, Lagosians are left wondering if this digital solution will ever live up to its promises. The incident also raises broader questions about how well the government can deliver on its promises and provide effective solutions to the city’s problems.
