Ben Roberts, Group Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at Liquid Intelligent Technologies has stepped down from his role.
Ben Roberts Steps Down From His Role In Liquid Telecom Kenya
This comes after spending 22 years at the Econet Group-owned firm.
He announced his new development on his LinkedIn page.
Ben wrote, “Well, after 22 years, it is with immense excitement, and some sadness, that it is time to move on from this great company, Liquid Intelligent Technologies.”
“I’m proud to have built and led great teams, and, with their hard work, built great products and perhaps the greatest network in Africa.”
How Ben Roberts Started
Ben Roberts joined Liquid Telcom in September of 2002 serving as the Voice Network Architect. He was the CTO of Wholesale Voice, Satellite, and Data for 3 years. This was between 2004 and 2007.
Thereafter, at a time the company was pivoting from Satellite to Fibre, he became the CTO – Group and International Networks. He held this role for almost 7 years.
It was in 2013 that he moved to Kenya. This was after Liquid acquired 5 companies in East Africa and Ben was appointed the Acting Managing Director of Liquid Telecom Kenya. He served in the role for 6 months.
For 4 years and 6 months between November 2012 to April 2017, he served as Group Director of Network Strategy.
Ben’s Impacts In Liquid Group
During his tenure, Liquid Group actively engaged with global technology communities and industry forums, including the Africa Peering Forum, ISOC, IETF, and ITU.

Ben’s strategy in tackling problems has coined him the title Titan of the Telecommunication industry. He has been instrumental in driving the group’s networking and product strategy.
His impacts were also felt in the expansion of the company’s technology base and fiber network across Africa.
Ben’s work has been central to Liquid’s mission of accelerating digital transformation and improving connectivity across African markets.
Under his guidance and leadership, Liquid Intelligent Technologies became a key player in providing faster, more reliable internet and cloud services to both urban and rural areas.
This significantly contributes to Africa’s digital infrastructure development.
