Skincare Startup Uncover Secures $1.4 Million Funding: Uncover, a Kenyan Skincare brand has closed a US$1.4 million seed II funding round to further build and express its innovative potential.
The tech beauty brand will use the fund to build its tech platform, launch new products, and expand to new markets.
The funding comes after Uncover raised $1 million in seed funding in 2022 to scale operations and expand to Nigeria. In 2021, it raised $100,000 in pre-seed funding.
Uncover was founded in 2021 by Sneha Mehta and Jade Oyateru. The brand utilizes user data collected through quizzes and other interactions on its app to create personalized skincare products. These products are developed in labs based in South Korea.
Uncover distributes its skincare products through its e-commerce platform. It also distributes via retail partnerships with pharmaceutical chains such as Goodlife and Medplus in Kenya and Nigeria.
Sneha Mehta, CEO of Uncover, said, “Our industry has historically represented only a few skin tones in testing.”
“Also, we are among the first brands to conduct tests on women in Africa. It’s exciting to begin in Africa and witness global demand and opportunities for our solution.”

The company boasts a digital community of over 200,000 women across Kenya, Nigeria, and the diaspora. Its revenue reportedly increased 10x last year since it channeled its funding round into Nigeria’s expansion and the launch of new data-driven products.
EQ2 Ventures and IgniteXL Ventures led this funding round, with additional participation from Chui Ventures, Samata Capital, and Altree Capital.
Claire Chang from IgniteXL Ventures, said, “We are incredibly impressed with Uncover’s use of data and technology to understand their core customer’s needs.”
