Zipline Completes First Drone Delivery to a New Mission Hospital in Kisumu

Zipline, one of the world’s largest autonomous delivery systems, which specializes in on-demand drone delivery and instant logistics, has achieved a significant milestone by completing its inaugural drone delivery to the newly opened St. Joseph’s Nyabondo Mission Hospital.

This is a unique initiative set to revolutionize the delivery of critical medical supplies in the region. The event was graced by Kenya’s President William Ruto and occurred during the hospital’s official opening.

The drone delivery, which occurred live during the hospital’s launch, exemplified how Zipline’s technology can overcome logistical hurdles, especially in areas where geographical challenges often delay the arrival of essential medical supplies.

The delivery showcased the efficiency and reliability of drone technology in overcoming logistical challenges, particularly in regions where uneven geographical landscapes may hinder timely access to essential medical supplies.

Dr. Ganda Gregory, Minister for Health for the County Government of Kisumu, highlighted the impact of Zipline’s operations over the past 18 months.

He said, “Over the one and a half years since our partnership with Zipline, they have completed over 10,000 flights to Kisumu County facilities, with approximately 40 percent of these delivering emergency supplies.”

“This partnership has significantly improved the response time of health facilities and overall increased patient outcomes.”
