Zambia Launches SMART Office Workshop with the Goal of Achieving K400 Million in Savings

Zambia has officially opened a new workshop called SMART Office workshop aimed at making government offices smarter and more efficient. The event took place in Chilanga District and marks a big step forward for the country’s digital plans.

During the opening of the Zambia SMART Office Workshop, Mr. Percy Chinyama, the National Coordinator of SMART Zambia, spoke about how much progress has already been made in bringing technology into government work. He said the new SMART office system will help the government save close to K400 million by cutting down on the amount spent on stationery like paper and pens.

“Technology is no longer a privilege, but a requirement for being efficient, competitive, and connected,” said Mr. Chinyama. He urged everyone involved to really take the SMART Office solution seriously, saying it’s not just about new gadgets, but also about changing the way people think and work.

“The biggest thing that we’re going to struggle with in this transformation is the fundamental change management,” Mr. Chinyama explained. “We have to re-engineer our mindset to allow us to use modern tools and provide excellent service.”

Ms. Annie Daka, who is the Project Manager for the SMART Office solution, added that government departments have already suggested changes to make the system work best for them. She said everyone is eager to start using the system in different government offices.

The main goals of the Zambia SMART Office Workshop are to make government services better, reduce the costs that come with using paper, solve common problems like missing files or records being put in the wrong place, and make government work more transparent and accountable.

This launch is a big part of Zambia’s push to use technology for national development. By moving away from old paper-based systems and toward digital tools, the government hopes to save money, work faster, and serve the people of Zambia much better.
