Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, has recently introduced several new features to WhatsApp in 2023. These features include the ability to edit messages and use multiple accounts on the same phone, which has made it easier for users to access their accounts. Now, a new feature has been added to enhance the security and privacy of conversations on the app.
In November, WhatsApp announced the introduction of the Secret Code feature. This feature is designed to make the app more secure by requiring a code to access chat logs across various linked devices.
The code can consist of numbers, letters, special characters, or even emojis, adding a touch of personalization to the user’s experience. This new feature will help ensure that conversations on WhatsApp remain private and secure.
This innovative feature promises to facilitate security measures by mirroring chat-lock settings across linked devices, thereby wiping out the need for individual configuration on each gadget.
WhatsApp has become more secure and private as chats can be instantly locked, if required, this can work across different devices, while saving the hassle of having to repeat actions, from smartphone to desktop.
First spotted by reliable WhatsApp update source WABetaInfo, the synchronized chat lock feature debuted in the most recent Android beta version (2.24.4.14). Users can now enjoy the same protection across all of their linked devices when they activate a chat lock on their smartphone. This guarantees constant privacy, irrespective of the platform used.
The previous privacy-focused features of WhatsApp are enhanced by this development. Including the personal chat locks that were unveiled the previous year and the ensuing “Secret Lock” feature.
Users can specify a special password for the locked chats folder with Secret Lock. putting an additional layer of security on every device. This weakness is addressed by the synchronized chat lock, which provides an all-encompassing method of data security.
Now, users only need to configure their preferred level of privacy once, and it will be automatically applied to all of their devices, greatly improving convenience and streamlining the procedure.
“We think this feature will be great for people who have reason to share their phones with family members or those moments where someone else is holding your phone at the exact moment an extra special chat arrives,” WhatsApp wrote in a blog post.
According to the blog, Chat Lock will soon have additional features, such as locking for companion devices and the ability to create custom chat passwords that are distinct from your phone password.
