Vodacom has announced that its annual update on selected products and services will take effect on June 1, 2025, with increases to out-of-bundle rates across all customer plans. The mobile network provider has begun notifying customers about these upcoming changes via SMS as part of its yearly price adjustment strategy.
Vodacom will increase out-of-bundle rates for voice calls and data services for all customer categories, including those on contract, TopUp, and prepaid plans. Out-of-bundle rates apply when customers use more airtime or data than what is included in their purchased bundles.

For customers on contract and TopUp plans, Vodacom out-of-bundle rates will increase by two cents per minute for voice calls and two cents per megabyte for data usage. These seemingly small adjustments will affect millions of Vodacom users across various service plans.
Prepaid customers will experience similar increases, with most voice call rates rising by 1.2% from R1.65 to R1.67 per minute. Data rates for most prepaid plans will jump by 4.1% from R0.49 to R0.51 per megabyte. Power Pack customers face a slightly higher increase of 6.9% on data costs, with rates moving from R0.29 to R0.31 per megabyte.
Customers on Vodacom’s lowest-cost voice plan, Prepaid 79c, will see rates increase by 2.5% from R0.79 to R0.81 per minute. Meanwhile, Prepaid LTE customers will experience a 1% increase in voice rates from R2.09 to R2.11 per minute.
Several prepaid price plans will be affected by these adjustments, including Vodacom Dash Mobile, Khosi Bonus, NXT LVL, Power Pack, Power Bonus, Prepaid LTE, Prepaid 79c, and Zetnet[6]. Each plan will see specific rate changes as Vodacom will increase out-of-bundle rates from June 2025.
Prepaid Voice and Data Out-of-Bundle rates will change as per below:

These increases follow Vodacom’s previous price adjustments implemented in March 2025, which saw an average increase of 4.5% across its Red, mobile broadband, fixed-wireless access, and Flexi postpaid plans. The company is not alone in raising prices, as competitors MTN and Telkom have also implemented similar adjustments in recent months.
While Vodacom has historically worked to reduce the cost of communication services-having reduced data prices by significant margins since 2020 according to their submissions to ICASA[11]-these latest increases reflect ongoing economic pressures and infrastructure investments. The company has previously cited the need to “continue delivering the quality coverage and service you expect” as justification for price adjustments.

For consumers concerned about Vodacom out-of-bundle rates, industry experts recommend purchasing appropriate data bundles to avoid these higher charges. Vodacom has previously introduced measures to encourage in-bundle adoption, including usage notifications and personalized offers with better value.
As June 1 approaches, Vodacom customers should review their usage patterns and consider adjusting their plans or purchasing appropriate bundles to minimize exposure to these increased out-of-bundle rates. The company’s official communications and website provide detailed information about the specific changes applicable to each plan type.
