Visa has appointed Aminata Kane as VP and Head of Western and Central Africa, marking a significant step for the global payment company as it continues to expand its presence in Africa. Aminata Kane, who was born in Senegal, will officially start her new role as Senior Vice President and Head of Western and Central Africa on September 4, 2025. This move is part of Visa’s plan to reorganize its operations in the region, focusing on four main hubs: Abidjan, Accra, Kinshasa, and Lagos.
Aminata Kane as VP and Head Western and Central Africa will be based in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. She will lead a new team that covers 23 different markets, including large economies like Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as countries in the Sahel and Congo basin that are still developing their digital payment systems. Visa has appointed Aminata Kane because of her strong background in digital financial services and her commitment to helping people gain digital skills.

Before joining Visa, Aminata Kane was the regional CEO for Orange Money Group, where she managed services across 17 countries. She is known for her work in promoting digital inclusion, especially for young people and women. For example, she helped set up the Orange Foundation and the Orange Digital Centre in Sierra Leone, which provide technology training and support for youth and women. Visa has appointed Aminata Kane as VP and Head because of her leadership and her ability to drive positive change in digital finance.
Andrew Torre, Visa’s Regional President for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, said that Aminata Kane’s experience will be very important for Visa’s goal of expanding financial inclusion in Western and Central Africa. He believes that her vision will help Visa create more accessible and innovative digital payment systems in the region.
The appointment of Aminata Kane as VP and Head Western and Central Africa comes at a time when mobile money services are growing quickly in West and Central Africa. However, there are still challenges, such as limited banking services for small businesses and a lack of trust in digital payments. Visa is working to solve these problems by focusing on innovation, building local partnerships, and supporting new digital payment companies through programs like its Fintech Accelerator. Aminata Kane’s background is impressive. She studied at HEC Paris and the MIT Sloan School of Management. She started her career at Goldman Sachs and later worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company in Paris, where she learned about financial strategy and market growth. She has been recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and is listed among the 100 most influential female CEOs in Africa.
