The Google Startups Accelerator Africa 2024 Application Now Ongoing

Exciting news for progressive tech start-ups in Africa! Google has declared the application commencement for the eight cohorts of the Google Startups Accelerator Africa program.

The program provides eligible African start-ups with the relevant resources, investments, and technical support needed for their growth. 

About Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program

Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program is a three-month, equity-free initiative that provides African Startups with the necessary resources. It provides deep dives and workshops focused on product design, customer acquisition, and leadership development. It also provides mentorship, technical resources, and access to a global network of experts and investors for African start-ups. 

How Does Google for Startups Accelerators Africa Work? 

Eligible Startup founders highlight the top technical challenges for their startup and are presented to Google. The founders are then paired with relevant experts from both Google and the industry to solve those challenges, thereby evolving their business. They also are provided with insights and best practices to improve their product and business.

Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startup’s Ecosystem, Africa at Google, who declared the commencement of the program highlighted the achievement of the program. He asserted that the program supported 106 start-ups from different African countries. Also, he emphasized the money raised and the jobs created through the Google for Startups Accelerators Africa program. 

He said, “The program has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries. It has collectively raised over $263 million and created more than 2,800 direct jobs.”

What The Program Focuses On

The eight cohorts will run from June 24 to September 12, 2024. Additionally, it includes a support of approximately $350,000 in Google Cloud credits. 

Mr Folarin stated: “It will include mentorship, personalized guidance from Google Artificial Intelligence (AI) experts, seasoned entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.” 

The eight cohorts Google for Startups Accelerators Africa program will focus on Leveraging AI and Machine Learning. This is to address critical challenges and provide advanced tech opportunities in the African region.

Criteria For Google for Startups Accelerators Africa Program 

According to Google, Startups must meet the following criteria to be eligible: 

  • Startups demonstrating traction, ideally between Seed and Series A stage and located in Africa.
  • Building a scalable product or service with a significant total responsive market and defensible growth model.
  • Startups that are deeply technical, preferably leveraging technologies like Machine Learning and AI.
  • Commitment from CTO and/or technical roles to participate and engage in required program sessions.
