Safaricom Holds a Gaming Conference in Kenya

Safaricom has made a big step in Kenya’s gaming world by holding its very first-ever gaming conference. This important event, called the Safaricom gaming conference in Kenya, took place at the Michael Joseph Centre in Nairobi. The theme was “Level Up Africa: Unlocking Gaming Potential in Africa,” and it brought together gamers, tech experts, policymakers, and investors to talk about how gaming is growing and changing the future in Africa.

The Safaricom gaming conference was more than just talks about games. It showed how gaming is a source of talent and creativity. Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, said that gaming is not only for fun but also a chance to create jobs, new ideas, and strong communities. She said Safaricom wants to help young people turn their gaming skills into real careers by providing the right platforms and tools. This shows how Safaricom holds gaming as a key part of youth empowerment and technology growth in Kenya.

This made the event fun and exciting for everyone, showing that gaming connects deeply with African culture in more ways than one.

During the Safaricom gaming conference, important challenges were discussed. One of the biggest problems is the lack of strong policies to support the gaming industry and the need for more investment to help game developers grow their work. Another big concern is how to keep local talent from leaving Africa to work in other countries. Safaricom has been supporting the gaming scene in Kenya for a long time, working with young people through different competitions and events.

For example, in 2019, Safaricom launched an eSports tournament with Pro Series Gaming (PSG) for young gamers aged 18 to 26. This tournament wasn’t just about winning prizes; it was also a way for gamers to get mentorship and grow their skills. Later, in 2021, Safaricom introduced a fun online gaming competition called the MobiPlay Challenge that lasted eight weeks. Gamers competed in puzzles, arcade, and action games for daily and weekly prizes, plus a grand prize at the end.

Last year, Safaricom launched another online gaming challenge called “Wai Ndai,” which lasted 90 days and gave out cash vouchers worth thousands of dollars and a grand prize of three Suzuki Alto cars. More recently, Safaricom helped power the 2025 Otamatsuri Gaming Convention at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) by providing fast and reliable 5G internet. This made sure gamers had smooth and fast online gaming experiences without interruptions.

Safaricom holds a gaming conference in Kenya to show its strong support for the gaming industry and young gamers. The company is serious about building better internet connections and creating opportunities for African gamers and developers. By bringing everyone together, Safaricom is helping Kenya’s gaming industry grow and compete on the world stage.
