According to Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Nigerians enrolled in the federal government’s ongoing 3 Million Technical Training (3MTT) programme may be eligible for unemployment benefits.
The announcement was made concurrently with the minister’s unveiling of the 270,000 fellows chosen for the programme’s second cohort.
Tijani went on to say that a sizable portion of the programme’s initial cohort of fellows are currently being hired as interns across the nation.
Furthermore, he stated that all of the fellows from the first phase have reached a point where they will be applying what they have learned by working with their peers to build solutions that highlight their areas of expertise and by taking part in hackathons within their states.
President Bola Tinubu’s plan to create 2 million digital jobs and his dedication to the 3MTT programme are the reasons behind the proposal for unemployment benefits. In keeping with the president’s vision, the programme seeks to provide participants with the skills necessary for the global digital economy.
Minister Tijani emphasized the need for developing a tech-savvy workforce and the president’s order to take qualifying programme participants’ unemployment benefits into consideration. The ultimate objectives are to boost national GDP defense capabilities, empower individuals, and promote general economic growth.
He mentioned that the ministry will be able to accomplish its goal of guaranteeing that participants secure positions that will utilize the skills they will acquire thanks to the 12-month paid internship, which is part of the government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
He tweeted, “We are pleased to announce a partnership with @UNDPNigeria to offer 3,000 paid internships to our 3MTT fellows. These 12 month internships will help fulfill our objective to ensure that participants in the 3MTT programme get placed in roles that will allow them to apply the skills they learn in the programmeme. #NigerianExcellence”
Through its 3MTT programme, Nigeria seeks to train three million technical talents in a few years in order to grow its digital economy and turn into a net talent exporter. Software development, UI/UX design, data analysis and visualization, product management, cybersecurity, AI/ML, data science, animation, game development, cloud computing, and devops are the main topics of the training.
The Minister further stated that applications for the programme, which aims to train three million Nigerians, have only reached about 1.8 million.
“Congratulations to all who have been chosen! Kindly verify your email inboxes and #3MTT dashboards for further guidance on the upcoming actions.”
“For those who have not yet been selected as fellows, remember that you are part of the 3MTT Learning Community and you will have access to resources to continue your learning journey,” he further said.
The minister recently declared that more than a million people had applied for the programme. This was disclosed by Tijani, who also mentioned that the more than a million applicants who have registered thus far will need to take an Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course.
