Lenovo Leads with 15.2 Million Units as Global PC Sales saw a 4.9% Increase in the First Quarter of 2025

There is sustained growth in the demand for PCs worldwide, as global PC sales increases in the first quarter of 2025. This can be seen in the 4.9% year-on-year growth in shipments reaching 63.2 million units. This growth comes after four consecutive quarters of recovery, signaling a steady demand for PCs worldwide. Lenovo leads with a staggering 15.2 million units shipped during this quarter as global PC sales increases.

The latest data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) clearly shows how Lenovo continues to dominate the global PC market. In Q1 2025, Lenovo had a market share of 24.1%, leading all other brands in shipments. Lenovo showed an impressive performance in Q4 2024 in which they surpassed 16 million units and claimed close to 25% of the market share. Despite a slight dulling in shipments relative to the preceding quarter, year-on-year growth was up by roughly 10.4%. Such results further cemented Lenovo’s leadership position as PC sales increased globally.

HP shipped 12.8 million units which positioned them at number two while also giving them a 20.2% market share. Dell followed close behind with 9.6 million units and 15.1% market share. This put them in third place. Apple fell back into fourth with 5.5 million units and 8.7% market share. It is important to note that all of these brands greatly contributed toward the growth of global PC sales.

Lenovo Leads as Global PC Sales Increases

There are many reasons that attribute toward the increment in sales, this is one of them. Firstly, the hardware upgrade schedule ahead of the deadline for the Windows 10 end-of-support is a huge motivator, this is scheduled for the end of the year. There is also an increase in demand for PCs with AI features. This popularity applies on both personal and commercial levels, making these devices extremely multifunctional.

The announcement of new U.S tariffs on imported goods has caused some issues for this sector. Alongside impacting production costs, these tariffs will also affect consumer prices, which in result will slow the demand over upcoming quarters. Some analysts have noted that although there is a strong demand from businesses, the inflationary pressures from tariffs may drive spending on IT services to be postponed until later this year.

Even with these issues, Lenovo is still leading as global PC sales increases in the first quarter of 2025. The company’s ability to take advantage of integrating AI alongside navigating uncertainties in the market strategically has been pivotal for its success.

The remainder of 2025 has mixed predictions for the PC industry. Growth potential exists in corporate upgrades and AI implementation, but economic volatility and tariff disruptions may prove challenging. Analysts suggest these factors will add complexity to planning forecasts for demand from other manufacturers.

As Lenovo leads with 15.2 million units shipped in Q1 2025, its strong performance sets a benchmark for the industry, but how other manufacturers tackle evolving difficulties will determine if this trend persists throughout the year.
