Led by the Ministry of ICT alongside the Presidential Communication Service and Office of the Government Spokesperson, the Kenyan government’s plan to hire social media influencers aims to strengthen online presence amid rising digital scrutiny. The plan includes 10 macro-influencers (over 100,000 followers) paid $770 (KSh100,000) per quarter, and 20 micro-influencers (10,000-100,000 followers) earning $385 (KSh50,000) each quarter. These creators will develop hashtags and produce aligned content on key areas like healthcare, affordable housing, agriculture, and employment.

Kenya boasts one of Africa’s top influencer markets, with brands investing $5 million (KSh645 million) in 2025. Dennis Itumbi, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, notes the government has redirected ad spending to digital platforms and content development. Selected influencers must submit proposals to the Creative Economy Office, detailing how they’ll communicate projects in accessible, educational ways.
