Nigeria’s biggest electricity company, Ikeja Electric, has warned all its customers. They have just eight days to send their Tax Identification Number (TIN), National Identification Number (NIN), or CAC registration details. If not, the company will cut off their power supply.
The company shared this news in a public notice on Wednesday. It says any bills sent without at least one of these ID numbers are now invalid. This follows Nigeria’s new tax law. Customers must act by February 20, or they could lose their electricity.
Ikeja Electric serves many homes and businesses in Lagos. They explain that the Nigeria Tax Act of 2025 became law on January 1, 2026. This law demands that all invoices from companies must show customer ID details. For electricity firms like Ikeja Electric, this means updating their systems to add TIN, NIN, or CAC numbers on bills.

The company wants customers to fill a simple form with one of these IDs. This will help update billing records and follow the law. Without it, old bills do not count under the new rules.

This tax law is changing how businesses work in Nigeria. It forces companies to collect and show customer IDs on every bill. The goal is to improve tax payment. Government can now check utility bills against tax records. This helps spot people or businesses hiding income by matching power use patterns with what they report.
For Ikeja Electric, the rule is simple. Bills missing the ID are not valid. They cannot ask for payment on such bills or disconnect service based on them right now. That is why they urge everyone to submit details fast, before the deadline.
What happens if customers ignore this? The notice is clear. No ID by February 20 means no proper bill. Without a valid bill, Ikeja Electric says they can suspend power. This puts pressure on many people.
Not everyone has these IDs ready. TIN is for tax purposes, and many home users do not have one because they never needed it before. NIN is more common now, thanks to government pushes for national ID sign-ups. But CAC is for registered companies only.
The deadline is very close. Customers have just over a week. They need to find their documents, check if they are correct, and send them to Ikeja Electric. For those who have paid bills for years without this, the change feels sudden and strict.

So far, no other electricity companies in Nigeria have made the same announcement. It is not clear if they plan to follow soon or handle it differently. But Ikeja Electric’s quick move and power cut threat could push others to act in the coming weeks. This may become the new way for all discos.
Customers should check Ikeja Electric’s website or offices right away. Fill the form with your TIN, NIN, or CAC number. Do it now to avoid darkness at home or work. The law aims to make taxes fairer, but it means everyone must update their info fast.
