eTIMS is short for electronic Tax Invoice Management System. it is an e-system that generates and transmits tax invoices directly to KRA.
The system is mandatory for all businesses in Kenya, which either are or are not registered under VAT but will issue compliant invoices.
eTIMS provides four solutions:
#. Web-based (online portal)
#. eTIMs client (downloadable software for businesses handling goods)
#. Virtual Sales Control Unit (VSCU) for large volumes of transactions
#. Online Sales Control Unit (OSCU) for online invoicing.
VAT-registered businesses should already be using eTIMS or TIMS ETR.
Non-VAT-registered businesses are supposed to onboard by March 31, 2024, and upon onboarding, all manual invoices since January 1, 2024, need to be entered into the system.
eTIMS is free through the online portal and client software provided by KRA. However, businesses integrating eTIMS with their existing systems may incur fees if they use third-party integrators.
