Eskom Tracks Days Without Load-shedding: South Africa recorded the 200th day of constant electricity supply since state power utility Eskom halted load shedding on 26 March.
The utility credits this milestone to its Generation Operational Recovery Plan, which has reduced unplanned outages by 8.6% and improved energy availability by 7.7%.
The plan is projected to contribute to a potential ~2% growth in the South African economy and improve Eskom’s financial performance for the financial year 2025 (April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025).
“In preparation for a competitive electricity market, this is a significant milestone to ensure energy security” and attract investment to South Africa, Eskom CEO Dan Marokane said.
Additionally, he said, “Eskom Tracks Days Without Load-shedding. We are days away from a further milestone that demonstrates the stability of our fleet… We are on track to reach 206 days [on Saturday] without load shedding, a result we last delivered five years ago on 15 October 2019.”

There is indeed no more load-shedding, but load reduction continues in areas around the country.
This is a system eerily similar to load-shedding, where areas that Eskom claims a high prevalence of illegal connections are dolled out blackouts for a few hours a day to stabilize the local energy grids of these areas and avoid longer blackouts – or at least that’s what it officially says.
