eMedia Reveals Plans for New Streaming Service, eVOD

eMedia Plans for eVOD Streaming Service: eMedia Holdings, the parent of e.tv and Openview, describes eVOD as the “Netflix of South Africa”. 

The company has disclosed its annual results report. The report reveals that eVOD has accumulated nearly 300,000 new registrations since June 2023.

eMedia also boasted of registration under eVod. The company said registrations had increased to 1.13 million as of 31 March 2024. 

This is up from around 800,000 at the same stage last year.

“eVOD stands as South Africa’s fastest-growing streaming service and was initiated by eMedia in August 2021.”

Although the group hasn’t disclosed how many active users eVOD has, it claimed a 19% increase in watch time over the 2023 financial year, reaching 1.3 billion minutes.

eMedia disclosed the most popular content available on eVOD. eMedia Plans for eVOD Streaming Service are:

  • Local series: House of Z Wide; Smoke & Mirrors; and Isitha: The Enemy – Blood and Betrayal
  • International Series: Elif, Annekan die Swa Kryand Doodsondes
  • DVD originals: The Umbrella Men: Escape from Robben Island; Yolanda is Swanger and Piet’s Sake

Moreover, the company plans to expand support for the streaming platform to more smart TVs and make new content available to users with the new Openview 512 set-top boxes.

It also plans to introduce live stream advertising and display banner advertisements to the platform.
