Kuda, also known as Kuda Technologies, is a fintech company operating in Nigeria and the UK. It was founded by Babs Ogundeyi and Musty Mustapha in 2019.
It initially begun as Kudimoney or “the bank of the free”, an online-only savings and lending platform. It has since undergone a few funding rounds to transform into what is now Nigeria’s first neobank. Kuda was listed as one of the seven WEF African technology startups of 2021.
The Kuda app will be available on iOS, Android and the web, initially offering UK-to-Nigeria remittance, with plans to expand the remittance service to other African countries and expand the feature portfolio for UK customers in the near future.
Kuda Technologies is a fintech company on a mission to make financial services more affordable, accessible and rewarding for every African.
Starting with Nigeria where it has more than 4 million customers, Kuda is giving Africans a better alternative with personal and business banking delivered through digital devices, free transfers, smart budgeting and instant access to credit.
Kuda has raised over $90 million from institutional investors including Valar Ventures and Target Global.
Before starting Kuda, Babs advised some of Africa’s biggest banks whilst at PricewaterhouseCoopers and was a Special Adviser on Finance in the Nigerian government. He is also a founder of two other companies.
To give all Africans globally access to friction-free and affordable financial services, connecting the diaspora with Africa and increasing financial inclusion.
To make financial services more accessible, affordable and rewarding for every African on the planet.
The company offers services such as easy money transfers, bill payments, and the provision of debit cards, all aimed at simplifying financial transactions for Africans.
Kuda has developed a full-service digital-only bank platform designed to assist consumers in smart budgeting, saving, and spending.
The company’s platform allows the opening of a digital account synchronized with the bank which excludes unnecessary bank charges, helps in earning interest, and also assists in gaining access to low-interest loans, enabling consumers to save periodically and earn interest for their savings while excluding any physical banking hassle.
We make money by using collective deposits to make investments and issue credit. We also make money from commission on airtime purchases and from service fees sellers pay us when people like you shop with their Kuda Card.
Since its launch, Kuda Business has rolled out unique features like Sales Mode, Kuda Payroll, and business registration on the Kuda Business mobile app as well as a softPOS feature that helps businesses receive contactless payments on their smartphones wherever they are.
