About us

Glovo is an online platform that provides home delivery services for food from restaurants and ghost kitchens. Founded in Barcelona in 2015, it operates in Southern Europe and EEMEA. The app connects users with restaurants, grocery chains, pharmacies, retail stores, and couriers and includes an “anything” category that allows users to order whatever they want in their city.

Currently, they are mainly focusing on Europe, where they are leaders in Spain, but they also have a presence in some countries in Africa and Asia.

Glovo entered the Nigerian market in July 2021, with a food delivery and courier app, offering users the convenience of ordering food, groceries, and more from their favorite local spots, chains, and fine dining restaurants within their city.

The app has a growing popularity and is currently available in Ikoyi, VI, Lekki, Yaba, Surulere, Ilupeju, Abuja, and Ibadan and is expanding quickly into new locations across the country.

Our History

Our story begins with Óscar graduating from Georgia Tech in Aerospace Engineering. After an internship at Airbus, he felt the job didn’t fit with his aspirations. Inspired by the first versions of Uber and Postmates, he developed an initial version of an app called Globo – meaning balloon in Spanish.
But he changed it to Glovo at the last minute, making it more unique. Soon after, Óscar met Sacha Michaud and they both embarked on one of the greatest rides of their lives.

The first round of financing was closed right after Christmas. Glovo started delivering real orders with only two options in the app: “Buy something” and “Send something”.

The beginning was tough, with less than 10 orders per day, and the whole team connected 24/7, even completing order requests themselves.

With a team of 20 people, Glovo moved to a bigger co-working space in Barcelona. Growth was still the main concern and money was running out (again). A big strategic decision was made: to build a marketplace of local stores. The first restaurant to sign a partnership with us was an Indian restaurant in Barcelona.

How does Glovo work?

Glovo’s platform allows local stores to sell their products and services to users in the cities Glovo operates. The delivery of products and services is carried out by riders who access our platform in the countries where Glovo is operating.

Also, to deliver their products and services by independent workers that access the platform. Partners can also use their own vehicles’ fleet to deliver.

Glovo provides its users access to any product in their city within minutes. We have built a technology that connects customers, local businesses, and couriers. All of them have signed up to benefit from our technology.

Our app was born to transform the way users get what they need, making cities more accessible. At Glovo, we want to give everyone easy access to anything in their city while having a positive impact on the economy, society, and the environment. We’re an innovative, tech-first company with a conscious.
