Nigerian food delivery startup Chowdeck has made a major move by buying Mira, a restaurant point-of-sale (POS) and management system, for an undisclosed amount. This deal marks a big step for Chowdeck as it aims to become more than just a delivery company and targets restaurant operations across Africa.
Chowdeck buys Mira for an undisclosed amount to solve key problems faced by restaurants, such as managing inventory and tracking sales. Mira, founded just a year ago by Ted Oladele, comes with a suite of tools that help restaurants handle orders, monitor stock, and engage with customers. With features like QR-code ordering and real-time inventory tracking, Mira’s system is already used by over 500 businesses. The POS hardware itself sells for ₦360,000, showing its focus on the practical needs of African restaurants.

Since Chowdeck launched in 2021, it has quickly become a leading name in Nigeria’s food delivery scene, serving more than one million users with over 3,000 riders in eight Nigerian cities and Ghana’s capital, Accra. The company recently hit a milestone in Accra by completing 1,000 deliveries in just two months, a feat that took a whole year in Nigeria. Now, by buying Mira, Chowdeck is looking to deepen its relationship with restaurants and other food businesses, not just in Nigeria but across the continent.
Chowdeck buys Mira to help restaurants and food businesses across Africa run more smoothly. Many of these businesses struggle with inventory chaos, unreliable supply chains, and a lack of modern technology. By combining its fast delivery service with Mira’s smart management tools, Chowdeck wants to make it easier for restaurants to keep track of what they have, reduce waste, and serve customers better.
Chowdeck’s CEO, Femi Aluko, said the company has mostly focused on customers in the past, but now it wants to pay more attention to the businesses that actually make and sell the food. With Mira’s technology, Chowdeck can now offer restaurants a powerful set of tools to manage sales, inventory, and customer relationships, all in one place.
As part of the deal, Mira’s founder Ted Oladele will join Chowdeck as Head of Product, along with some of his team. They’ll work together to create new solutions for food and hospitality businesses, helping Chowdeck become a “super app” that supports everything from food delivery to restaurant management.
This move comes as Chowdeck faces strong competition from international players like Glovo, which is active in Kenya and South Africa. By owning more of the restaurant operations process, Chowdeck hopes to stand out and build stronger partnerships with food businesses.
Experts see this as a smart strategy. Instead of just delivering food, Chowdeck is now aiming to control more of the supply chain, from order fulfillment to restaurant operations. This could help the company avoid the thin profit margins that have made food delivery a tough business in Africa.

By buying Mira, Chowdeck is betting that better technology and deeper partnerships with restaurants will give it an edge as it targets restaurant operations across Africa. The financial details remain secret, but the impact could be huge as Chowdeck tries to become the backbone of food businesses across the continent.
