Bayobab Kenya, a leading network provider in the region, has officially launched its National Long Distance (NLD) fibre network phase 2, which runs from Mombasa to Malaba and Busia primarily along the metre gauge railway line.
The NLD 2 launch is part of Bayobab’s vision to accelerate digital inclusion across markets in Kenya and the surrounding region.
The NLD 2 launch by Bayobab Kenya, a tier 2 network provider, is set to enhance reliability for customers across Kenya.
The new fibre network provides a redundant route to the existing NLD 1, which runs along the Kenya Pipeline route from Mombasa to Malaba.
“NLD2 provides a redundant route to NLD 1,” said Sylvia Anampiu, Bayobab Kenya’s Managing Director.
This redundancy is crucial in mitigating risks and avoiding total service outages in the event of disruptions.
Currently, Bayobab Kenya has completed 2,600 Km of fibre network in Kenya and has plans to deploy another 700 Km.
The recent Mombasa to Malaba National Long Distance Fibre launch is part of a bigger picture for the Bayobab Group, which already has 125,000km of fibre running across Africa.
The company plans to expand this by 10,000 Km to reach 135,000 Km by the end of 2025.
Bayobab’s vision is to connect the East coast to the west coast of Africa via an inland fibre backbone dubbed “East to West”.
Bayobab Kenya primarily serves as a Layer 2 and IP Transit Provider (IPT).
The company’s Layer 2 services, also known as National Private Leased Circuit (NPLC), offer point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and any-to-any connectivity between customer sites over DWDM Technology.
As an IP transit provider, Bayobab is the right partner for anyone looking to grow their existing ISP business or start an ISP business in Kenya.
The company’s open access model drives wider reach, collaboration, efficiency, and innovation.
Bayobab Kenya recently ran a campaign dubbed “The Mbuyu Connector Campaign,” which sought to find three ISPs with the most compelling proposals to increase FTTH connectivity and have the highest impact.
The campaign recognized three Kenyan ISPs: Ahadi Wireless, Vilcom, and Aherinet, which will focus on growing connectivity in underserved areas of Kibera, Huruma slums of Eldoret, and remote parts of Kisumu, respectively.
The NLD 2 launch by Bayobab Kenya is a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to enhance connectivity and enable digital inclusion across Kenya and the East African region.
By providing reliable and redundant fibre networks, Bayobab is laying the foundation for the adoption of next-generation technologies and cutting-edge applications.
