MTN Ghana’s profit surged by 56% in the first half of the year, and this really shows how well the company is doing. This big jump is mainly because of the growth in data and fintech services, which more and more people are using every day. MTN Ghana, also known as Scancom PLC, shared these results for the first six months of 2025, and it’s clear they are leading the way in telecom and financial services in Ghana.
To put it simply, MTN Ghana’s profit surged by 56% for the first half of the year. They earned GHS 3.6 billion after tax, which is much higher compared to last year. This strong profit comes from the money the company makes by offering services like data plans and mobile money transactions. Service revenue went up by 40%, reaching GHS 11.3 billion. The biggest part of that came from data services, which grew by over 50%. People are using more data than before, with the average user now consuming about 14GB every month — that’s a lot of video watching and internet use!
Mobile Money, or MoMo as it’s called, is also a big reason why MTN Ghana’s profit surged by 56%. The company saw a big increase, 46.4%, in money made from MoMo. More Ghanaians are using it for everyday things like sending money, paying bills, and even borrowing small loans. The number of MoMo users grew by 7.4%, now hitting 17.7 million. This shows how much people trust and rely on MTN Ghana’s fintech services.
MTN Ghana didn’t just grow in fintech. Their overall customer base also got bigger. Mobile subscribers went up by 6.5% to over 30 million people. More customers are using data too, with active data users jumping 11% to 18.2 million. This growing number of users helps explain why MTN Ghana’s profit surged by 56%.
Even though voice calls still grew by 12.6%, many customers are now using internet-based calls instead of traditional mobile calls. Digital services, like video and gaming platforms, saw an amazing 87.7% increase in revenue. This means people are enjoying more digital entertainment than ever.
MTN Ghana also ran its business well by managing costs and investing smartly in new technology. Earnings before tax and other expenses went up by 45.5% to GHS 6.6 billion, and their profit margin improved too. They invested GHS 2.7 billion in network upgrades so customers can enjoy faster and more reliable services. Thanks to this, 99.3% of people in Ghana now have 4G coverage.
Because of these great results, the company increased its dividend payment to shareholders. This means people who own shares in MTN Ghana got more money this year compared to last.
MTN Ghana is not just about business; they also care for the community. They support women and young people by teaching digital skills and financial literacy through projects like Adwumapa and the 21 Days of Y’ello Care. They also work to keep kids safe online and help more people learn about using the internet wisely.
On the fintech regulation side, MTN Ghana is moving forward with plans to localize its MobileMoney business, making sure everything follows government rules. They even held a special meeting for shareholders in May to discuss this.
Looking ahead, MTN Ghana plans to keep growing by offering better fintech and data services, improving how customers use their products, and following their big plan called Ambition 2025. They want to work closely with other companies in fintech and continue helping the community with social responsibility efforts.
