Kenya Government, Public Procurement Regulatory Authority, in partnership with GIZ and Strathmore University’s @iLabAfrica, announces the launch of the upgraded Public Procurement Information Portal.

The fully automated PPIP will be used for the publication of contract awards and tender notices by procuring entities.

Kenya Government Launches Public Procurement Information Portal

The portal is an online platform provided by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) for the publication of contract awards and tender notices by Procuring Entities.

Kenya goveernment

It was launched in 2018, and has about 1,500 registered procurement entities so far, of which 300 to 800 are active.

The partnership is expected to increase the number of registered  procurement entities to over 34,000. These entities would come with enhanced efficiency and accountability.

Key Objectives Of The PPIP

There are other key objectives the partnership will execute. They include:

  • Advanced Tender Viewing Options: Users can filter and view tenders based on selected criteria, with an automated notification system alerting users to upcoming tenders.
  • Increased Contract Award Visibility: The new contracts page allows users to see which contracts were awarded, to whom, and at what amount, enhancing transparency.
  • Automated Account Approvals: Procuring entities can register on the platform and have their accounts systematically reviewed, approved or rejected by PPRA officials.

Enhanced Portal To Ensure Seamless Procurement Process

Jimmy Kahindi, Chairman of PPRA, said, “This partnership is the culmination of a collective effort that began back in July 2018. This was when PPIP was originally launched following the issuance of Executive Order No.2 of 2018.”

“Since then the platform has continuously delivered the key principle of transparency, accountability, openness, and enhanced disclosure of public procurement information to the public.”

According to @iLabAfrica Director, Dr. Joseph Sevilla, the partnership was a significant milestone in the history of both organizations. He highlighted that they were able to upgrade the PPIP platform after 2 years of tireless work.

George Murugu, Chairman of the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board (PPARB), said that the portal will also be significant in accelerating the country’s economic metamorphosis.

He said, “The enhanced portal is a testament to the goals of the review board as it ensures a seamless procurement process that is transparent, accountable, and free from corruption.”

“This not only safeguards public funds but also promotes confidence in the system.”
