Starlink’s kit: Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet provider, entered the Kenyan market last year and became a fierce competitor to Safaricom and other internet service providers in the country.

However, the cost of its hardware kit has been a significant barrier, with most Kenyans decrying its high installation costs.

Seeing this, the company has set an incentive for the Kenyan market.

Kenyans are now allowed to rent the kit on a monthly basis.

Interested persons have to make an activation payment of KES 2,700. After this, the monthly rental fee has been set at KES 1,950.

These two charges are separate from the monthly internet service plans. Notably, Starlink’s hardware renting option is not a limited-time offer.

Starlink stated on its website, “Offering Starlink hardware rentals in Kenya. Same high-speed service up to 200+Mbps.”

Subscribers can pay for the internet installation via mobile money such as M-Pesa and Airtel Money.

Starlink’s kit offers high-speed broadband to remote areas with coverage in almost every part of Kenya.

For those who don’t want to rent, the purchase price for the standard actuated Starlink’s kit is KES 45,500. It has significantly come down from its initial price of KES 89,000.

The reduction in the price of Starlink hardware has had positive effects on the number of Satellite internet subscribers in Kenya.

Also, the rental option is expected to broaden access to the internet kits. Consequently, it positions Starlink as an inalienable rival to traditional internet providers.
