Skoot Launches Easy Smart Electric Three-wheeler in Kenya

Skoot Technology has launched the Skoot e3W in Kenya, a smart electric three-wheeler that makes daily work easier for drivers. This vehicle uses battery swapping technology from SUN Mobility and is distributed by Car & General. Built on a design from Piaggio, the Skoot e3W lets drivers swap out empty batteries in just minutes. This cuts down waiting time so they can keep earning.

Drivers control everything through a simple mobile app. They can handle their lease payments, find the nearest battery swap stations, and even pick up delivery jobs right from their phones. It’s all in one place to make life smoother.

Mr. George Rubiri, General Manager at Car & General, is excited about the partnership. “Our work with Skoot brings reliable electric three-wheelers to drivers who need steady daily income,” he said. “With our wide network for distribution and repairs, plus Skoot’s smart digital tools, this will change how drivers operate every day.”

The companies tested the Skoot e3W in Nairobi for the past two years. They checked how it handles heavy loads, how long the batteries last through many swaps, how it holds up under tough maintenance tests, and what riders think. Now, it’s ready for everyone. Drivers can lease it daily for USD 9.31, which is KES 1,200. This price includes all maintenance. Weekly or monthly plans are also available.

Sacha Cook, CEO and Co-Founder of Skoot Technology, explained the big picture. “Skoot is changing clean energy and transport for drivers, homes, and businesses,” she said. “Our app and platform help people work smarter, go greener, and earn better. The Skoot e3W is an easy-to-use electric vehicle made for busy drivers. You manage it all from your phone. Smart fuel options and two-wheelers are next, to connect more people in daily life.”

A regular driver covers about 150 kilometers each day. Pilot tests show that using SUN Mobility’s battery swaps costs around USD 5.04, or KES 650, for that distance. This beats diesel fuel, which runs about USD 6.59 or KES 850. Keep in mind, real costs and distance depend on how you drive and road conditions. These numbers come from tests and are guides, not fixed amounts.

Ajay Goel, Co-founder and CEO-International at SUN Mobility, shared their goals. “We want electric rides to be cheap for everyone,” he said. “After big wins in India, we’re happy to start in Kenya with Skoot. Our battery swaps work great for tough two- and three-wheeler drivers who rely on them to earn. In the coming months, we’ll grow the swap stations and bring out more low-cost vehicles.”

This launch comes at a good time for Kenya’s growing need for clean transport. Tuk-tuks, or three-wheelers, are everywhere in cities like Nairobi. They carry passengers and goods, but high fuel costs and pollution hurt drivers and the air. Electric options like the Skoot e3W promise lower running costs and no smoky exhaust. Battery swapping means no long charging stops, which is perfect for busy streets.

Car & General already has a strong setup across Kenya for sales and fixes. Paired with Skoot’s app and SUN Mobility’s tech, this could spread fast. Drivers save money on “fuel” each day, about USD 1.55 or KES 200 compared to diesel. Over a month, that adds up, letting them keep more earnings.

Skoot plans to add more vehicles soon, like smart two-wheelers. SUN Mobility will build more swap points. This could boost jobs in green tech and cut city pollution. For drivers, it’s a chance to go electric without big upfront costs. Leases start low, and the app handles the rest.

Kenya’s push for electric vehicles fits national goals to cut carbon and reliance on imported fuel. With trials proving it works, the Skoot e3W could lead the way for more affordable, smart mobility.
