Safaricom and iXAfrica Launches East Africa’s First AI-Ready Data Centre Services

Safaricom and iXAfrica have teamed up to launch something big for Kenya and the whole East African region: East Africa’s first AI-ready data centre. This means that for the first time, businesses and government offices in the region will have a local place to store and process huge amounts of data, especially for things like artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and other advanced technologies.

So, what exactly is an AI-ready data centre? Think of it as a super high-tech building packed with powerful computers and equipment that can handle really tough jobs, like running AI programs, storing lots of information, and keeping everything safe and running smoothly. Until now, many companies in East Africa had to rely on data centres in other countries, which could be slow, expensive, and sometimes risky. With Safaricom and iXAfrica launching East Africa’s first AI-ready data centre, all of this can now happen right here at home.

The new data centre, called NBOX1, is the largest in the region. It’s built to be strong, secure, and able to grow as more people need its services. It uses reliable, environmentally friendly power and is connected to major internet cables, so data can move quickly and safely. This is important because as more businesses use the internet, cloud services, and AI, they need places that can handle all that information without slowing down or losing anything.

For businesses, this is great news. If you’re a bank, you can use AI to spot fraud quickly and keep your customers’ money safe. If you’re in retail, you can use AI to predict what customers will want to buy next. Even government offices can use these services to store important records or run advanced programs. And because the data centre is local, everything happens faster and stays more secure.

Dr. Peter Ndegwa, the CEO of Safaricom, said that this partnership is a big step for Kenya’s digital future. As more people and businesses go online, they need strong and reliable places to keep their data. Safaricom and iXAfrica’s first AI-ready data centre gives them exactly that.

Guy Willner, the Chairman of iXAfrica, added that by working together, they’re building a digital community that will help the whole region grow and innovate. The data centre is ready for the future, with enough power and space to support even the biggest companies.

With Safaricom serving over 49 million people and leading the way in mobile and digital services, this new data centre is a natural next step. Now, businesses don’t have to look outside the country for top-notch digital services-they can get everything they need right here in Kenya.

Safaricom and iXAfrica launching the first AI-ready data centre in East Africa is a huge win for the region. It means faster, safer, and more affordable digital services for everyone, and it puts Kenya on the map as a leader in technology and innovation.
